Hanks filmará la vida de Dean Reed
Era considerado el Elvis Rojo. Aquí, fue la contrafigura de Palito Ortega en el filme "Mi primera novia".
Tom Hanks tiene todo listo para filmar la vida de Dean Reed, también conocido como el Elvis Rojo. Ahá, ¿y? ¡Es apasionante! OK, olvidémonos que Tom Hanks no es ni rubio ni buen mozo, pero más allá de los detalles, la vida de Reed es interesantísima. La película se llamará Comrad Rockstar (Camarada Rockstar) y, según el diario belinés B.Z., Tom comró los derechos para esta biopic a Renate Blume, la vidua del cantante y actor.
Reed fue algo así como la contrafigura marxista de Elvis. Norteamericano también, nació en 1938 en Colorado (ese lugar, de "rojo" sólo tiene el nombre) y logró una popularidad enorme en la República Democrática de Alemania y en la Unión Soviética, cuando el Muro de Berlín dividía al mundo en dos mitades. Fue una estrella en Chile - allí apoyó la campaña política de Salvador Allende - y, sí, también en la Argentina. De hecho, su debut en el cine fue con Mi primera novia (1965), película dirigida por Enrique Carreras en la que le disputaba a Palito Ortega el amor de Evangelina Salazar (a propósito: ¿quién hará de Palito en el filme de Hanks?). Pero su militancia izquierdista lo llevó a quedar en la mira del gobierno militar de Juan Carlos Onganía y fue deportado en 1966.
En 1973, decidió instalarse en la mitad socialista de Alemania donde continuó escribiendo, dirigendo y protagonizando películas, además de grabar más de una docena de discos y de hacer centenares de conciertos. Si tenía un rato libre... se iba de miliciano al Líbano.
Aunque politizado, Reed nunca se afilió a ningún partido y prefería definirse como marxista, antes que comunista. Tampoco renunció a su ciudadanía estadounidense y, durante su largo peregrinaje por el mundo, continuó pagando impuestos en su tierra natal.
En 1986, un una entrevista que le hicieron en el legendario programa periodístico 60 Minutos, Reed defendió la construcción del Muro de Berlín y apoyó la invasión soviética en Afganistán. Sus declaraciones generaron un gran revuelo en los Estados Unidos. Fue acusado de traición y le llovieron cartas con amenazas e insultos. El, que estaba en el declive de su carrera, se sintió muy tocado por esta reacción. Complicado también por constantes problemas sentimentales (se casó tres veces), cayó en una depresión tal que lo llevó al suicidio seis semanas después de aquella entrevista. Un peliculón.

Tom Hanks has everything ready to start the shooting of Dean Reed's life, also known as The Red Elvis. Ah, is fascinating! OK, let's forget that Tom Hanks is not blonde or as handsome as he was. But, going beyond those details, Reed's life is very interesting. The movie will be titled Comrad Rockstar, and according to the newspaper B.Z. from Berlin, Tom bought the rights to make the movie to Renate Blume the widow of the actor/singer.
Reed was something like the Marxist side of Elvis, also North American. He was born in 1938 in Colorado, and achieved an enormous popularity in the German Democratic Republic and the Soviet Union, when the Berlin Wall divided the world. Was star in Chile, backing up Salvador Allende's political campaign. He was a star in Argentina also. In fact, his debut in the movies, was with my "Mi Primera Novia" (1965) film directed by Enrique Carreras, in which he was trying to steal from Palito Ortega, Evangelina Salazar's love. (By the way, who is going to play the role of Palito in Hank's film?) But his left wing political affiliation got him in trouble with the military government of Juan Carlos Ongania, being deported in 1966.
In 1973 he decided to settle down in East Germany where he continued writing, directing, making movies, recording more than a dozen of records and giving hundred of concerts. If he had some free time, he went to Lebanon as a member of the militia.
Although he was politicized, Reed never belonged to any political party, and he would rather to be called Marxist instead of Communist. Never gave up his US citizenship. Even in his long peregrination around the world, he was always paying taxes to his native land.
In 1986 he was interviewed by the journalistic program 60 Minutes in which he defended the construction of the Berlin Wall, and backed up the Soviet invasion to Afghanistan. His comments caused a big stir in United States. Was called traitor and got tons of letters full of threats and insults. His career was going down, so this reaction was not very favorable for him. His sentimental life was very complicated as well (he got married three times). He fall in a deep depression after all of these events, that carried him to commit suicide 6 weeks after that interview. What a great movie!

Tom Hanks hat alles vorbereitet, um das Leben von Dean Reed, der auch als der Rote Elvis bekannt wurde, zu verfilmen. Wie das? Er ist leidenschaftlich! O.K., vergessen wir mal, dass Tom Hanks weder blond noch hübsch ist. Aber jenseits der Details ist das Leben von Reed sehr interessant. Der Film wird "Comrad Rockstar" ("Genosse Rockstar") heißen und der B.Z. zufolge kaufte Tom die Rechte für diese Filmbiografie von Renate Blume, der Witwe des Sängers und Schauspielers.
Reed war so etwas wie ein marxistischer Gegenentwurf zu Elvis. Auch er war US-Amerikaner, wurde 1938 in Colorado geboren (dieser Ort ist nur seinem Namen nach rot) und erlangte eine enorme Popularität in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik und in der Sowjetunion, als die Berliner Mauer die Welt noch in zwei Hälften teilte. Er war ein Star in Chile, wo er den Wahlkampf von Salvador Allende unterstützte. Und auch in Argentinien war er berühmt. Sein Filmdebüt gab er in "Mi primera novia" (1965), einem Film unter der Regie von Enrique Carreras, in dem er mit Palito Ortega um die Liebe von Evangelina Salazar rang (übrigens: Wer wird Palito in dem Film von Hanks spielen?). Aber die Militärregierung von Juan Carlos Onganía behielt ihn wegen seines Einsatzes für die Linken im Auge und verwies ihn 1966 des Landes.
1973 beschloss er, sich in der sozialistischen Hälfte Deutschlands niederzulassen, wo er weiterhin Drehbücher schrieb, Regie führte und Hauptrollen in Filmen spielte. Außerdem nahm er mehr als ein Dutzend Schallplatten auf und gab Hunderte von Konzerten. Und wenn er mal etwas Freizeit hatte, ging er im Libanon kämpfen.
Obwohl Reed politisch aktiv war, trat er doch nie einer Partei bei und sah sich eher als Marxist denn als Kommunist. Er verzichtete auch nicht auf seine US-amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft und zahlte während seiner langen Odyssee durch die Welt immer Steuern in seinem Heimatland.
1986 verteidigte Reed in einem Interview, das in der legendären Sendung "60 Minuten" gezeigt wurde, den Bau der Berliner Mauer und unterstützte die sowjetische Invasion in Afghanistan. Seine Bekenntnisse riefen in den USA große Empörung hervor. Er wurde als Verräter beschimpft und erhielt Unmengen von Briefen mit Drohungen und Beschimpfungen. Er, dessen Karriere bereits im Niedergang begriffen war, fühlte sich durch diese Reaktion sehr betroffen. Außerdem beschäftigten ihn Beziehungsprobleme (er war dreimal verheiratet), sodass er depressiv wurde und sechs Wochen nach jenem Interview Suizid beging. Was für ein Film!
