Dean Reed cantó el "Venceremos" en Rancagua

Remato su actuacion - prohibida por las autoridades - con el himno de la ex UP ("Venceremos") que se oia claramente desde la calle, donde tres carabineros ejercian una discreta vigilancia. En la "fila de honor" lo observaban la actriz Maria Maluenda, el disjokey Ricardo Garcia y los dirigentes sindicales de "El Teniente" Manuel Rodriguez y Juan Meneses.

Dean Reed (la gente le puso el apodo de "Rin Rin") llego anoche con una hora de atraso al auditorio del Sindicato Sewell y Mina - en Rancagua - donde 400 personas "pagaron" un kilo de alimentos para verlo. Vestia botas vaqueras, pantalon cafe y gamulan.

El acto - en solidaridad con los mineros despedidos - lo abrio el conjunto local "Shalala" (20:10 horas) que cobro 8.000 pesos por su actuacion. Cuando ya habian cantado cuatro temas y empezaban a ejecutar un quinto, el "presentador" (de blue jeans y parka coreana) les corto abruptamente la inspiracion para anunciar: "Por orden de las autoridades, el invitado principal a este programa... ehhh... no podra actuar. De todas maneras por favor permanezcan lo mas tranquilos posibles". (Pifias del publico y gritos: ¡Que cante...que cante!).

Seguido, el cantante y actor norteamericano (radicado en Alemania Oriental), subio al escenario con su guitarra. "Yo he venido - dijo - porque queria mostrar mi solidaridad en un acto personal a todo el pueblo chileno que ha sufrido por 10 anos (aplausos). Nosotros queremos tener una sociedad democratica de nuevo... Yo he recibido un orden que no puedo cantar, pero siempre mis enemigos me han dicho que lo que Dean Reed no puede hacer es cantar, pero yo creo que puedo tocar la guitarra" y se lanzo con el tema "Si se calla el cantor".

Despues de rendir un homenaje a Victor Jara, explico que habia nacido en Colorado (EE.UU.), "aunque 'meinos' mal que yo no naci en el mes de Marzo, porque alguien me ha dicho ayer que todas las gentes nacidas en Marzo van a ser expulsados por ser marxistas". (Risas)

Para sus compatriotas canto el satirico tema "Los Americanos" cuya letra cominza asi: "Ellos nacen ancianos y van envejeciendo a traves de la vida. Los Americanos. Y nacen convencidos que no hay nadie en el mundo mas importante... que los Americanos. Napoleon es para ellos un senor italiano... que organizo la cosa, sin americanos y estan mas que seguros, que no hubiera perdido Waterloo, con los americanos...".

Tambien tuvo palabras Para Ricardo Garcia: "Creo que fue el, el que me ha ensenado a decir ¡Viva Chile m...! Yo lo quiero como hermano", senalo, mientras Garcia se paraba Para recibir los aplausos, confundidos con gritos de "Libertad"...

Cuando ya pasaban las 21 horas, dio por terminada su actuacion. "Yo he tenido - explico - un gran amigo y en su nombre quiero cantar una cancion de despedida. Y procedio a entonar el "Venceremos" mientras el presentador pedia a gritos que los asistentes salieran en orden.

Rechazan a Reed

Un grupo de dirigentes sindicales del cobre entrego una declaracion publica en la que rechazan la actuacion de Dean Reed en Rancagua, porque "no cabe duda alguna que su actuacion obedece a una clara maniobra politica".

He finished his forbidden performance by the authorities, with the ex UP hymn ("Venceremos") that it could be clearly heard from the street, where 3 policemen were keeping a discrete vigilance. From the "VIP seats" he was watched by the actress Maria Maluenda, DJ Ricardo Garcia and the syndic directors of "El Teniente", Manuel Rodriguez and Juan Meneses.

Dean Reed (called by the people "Rin Rin") arrived one hour late to the Sewell and Mina Syndic Auditorium in Rancagua where about 400 people paid with one kilogram of food to see him. He dressed cowboy boots, brown trousers and a Suede coat.

When they had sung 4 songs and started singing the 5th one, the "host" (wearing blue jeans and a Korean parka) stopped them abruptly to announce: "The authorities have given the order that the principal guest to this program... eeeh... won't be able to perform. Anyway, please remain as calm as you possible can". (People whistling and shouting: "Sing, Sing!")

Soon, the north American actor/singer settled down in East Germany, climbed up the stage carrying his guitar. "I came, he said, because I wanted to show my solidarity through a personal act to all the Chilean people who had suffered for 10 years. (applauses). We want to have democracy again... I was given an order that I can't sing, but always my enemies have told me that Dean Reed can't sing, but I think that I can play the guitar, and he started singing "Si se calla el cantor".

After saying some words honoring Victor Jara, he explained that he was born in Colorado (USA) and "I have to thank that I was not born in the month of March, because somebody told me that all the people born in March are going to be deported for being Marxists". (Laughs).

For his compatriots he song a satiric theme "Los Americanos". The letter of the song says: "They are born old and they get older and older through life. The Americans. And they are born convinced that there is nothing more important in the world than them... Napoleon is for them an Italian man... who organized the thing without Americans and they were sure that Waterloo wouldn't be lost with the Americans..."

He also had words for Ricardo Garcia: "I think he has been the one that taught me to say: Viva Chile M....! While he was saying to love him as a brother, Garcia stood up in the middle of applauses and Libery shouts. After 9:00 p.m. , he finished his perform. "I have had, he explained, a great friend and in his honor I want to sing a farewell song. And he started singing "Venceremos" while the host was shouting that the people went out in order.

Dean Reed rejected

A group of the cooper Syndic directors gave a public declaration in which they rejected Dean Reed's performance in Rancagua, because "There is not doubt that his performance is a clear political maneuver".

Er beendete seinen Auftritt, der von den Behörden verboten worden war, mit der Hymne der ehemaligen Unidad Popular ("Venceremos"). Das Lied war von der Straße aus deutlich zu hören, wo drei Polizisten diskret patroullierten. Von den Ehrenplätzen aus schauten ihm die Schauspielerin Maria Maluenda, der Diskjockey Ricardo Garcia und die Gewerkschaftsführer von "El Teniente", Manuel Rodriguez und Juan Meneses, zu.

Dean Reed, dem die Leute den Spitznamen "Rin Rin" gegeben hatten, kam gestern Abend mit einer Stunde Verspätung in den Hörsaal der Gewerkschaft Sewell y Mina in Rancagua, wo ihn 400 Menschen erwarteten, die alle ein Kilo Lebensmittel "bezahlt" hatten, um ihn zu sehen. Er trug Cowboystiefel, eine braune Hose und ein Flanellhemd.

Die Solidaritätsveranstaltung zu Ehren der entlassenen Bergleute begann mit dem Auftritt der einheimischen Musikgruppe "Shalala" (20:10 Uhr), die 8.000 Peso für ihren Auftritt erhielt. Als sie schon vier Lieder gesungen hatten und gerade mit dem fünften beginnen wollten, unterbrach sie der Moderator (in blauen Jeans und Korea-Parka) abrupt und kündigte an: "Auf Befehl der Behörden darf der wichtigste Gast dieses Programmes... eh... nicht auftreten. Bitte verhalten Sie sich trotzdem so ruhig wie möglich." (Pfiffe aus dem Publikum und Rufe: "Er soll singen... er soll singen!")

Dann stieg der in Ostdeutschland wohnende Sänger und Schauspieler aus den USA mit seiner Gitarre auf die Bühne. "Ich bin gekommen", sagte er, "weil ich persönlich meine Solidarität gegenüber dem ganzen chilenischen Volk, das schon seit 10 Jahren gelitten hat, bekunden möchte." (Applaus) "Wir wollen wieder eine demokratische Gesellschaft haben. ...Ich habe den Befehl erhalten, dass ich nicht singen darf. Aber meine Feinde haben mir ja schon immer das Singen verboten. Aber ich glaube, dass ich Gitarre spielen darf." Und er begann das Lied "Si se calla el cantor" zu spielen.

Nach dieser Hommenage an Victor Jara erklärte er, dass er in Colorado (USA) geboren wurde, "aber wenigstens wurde ich nicht im Monat März geboren, denn mir hat gestern jemand erzählt, dass alle Leute, die im März geboren wurden, ausgewiesen werden würden, weil sie Marxisten sind." (Gelächter)

Für seine Freunde sang er das satirische Lied "Los Americanos", dessen Text so beginnt: "Sie werden als Alte geboren und werden durch das Leben noch älter. Die Amerikaner. Sie werden geboren mit der Überzeugung, dass niemand auf der Welt wichtiger ist als sie, die Amerikaner. Napoleon ist für sie ein Italiener, der die Sache ohne die Amerikaner angepackt hat. Und sie sind mehr als überzeugt davon, dass er Waterloo nicht verloren hätte, mit den Amerikanern..."

Er hatte auch Worte für Ricardo Garcia: "Ich glaube, er war es, der mir beigebracht hat, zu sagen 'Viva Chile! - Es lebe Chile!'. Ich liebe ihn wie einen Bruder," betonte er, während Garcia aufstand, um seinen Beifall entgegenzunehmen, der sich mit Rufen nach "Freiheit!" vermischte.

Als es schon nach 21 Uhr war, kündigte er das Ende seines Auftritts an. Er erklärte: "Ich hatte einen großartigen Freund und in seinem Namen möchte ich ein Abschiedslied singen." Und dann sang er "Venceremos", während der Moderator rief, dass die Besucher geordnet den Saal verlassen mögen.

Sie lehnen Reed ab

Eine Gruppe von Führern der Kupfergewerkschaft übergab eine öffentliche Erklärung, in der sie den Auftritt von Dean Reed in Rancagua ablehnen, weil "sein Auftritt zweifellos ein politisches Manöver ist."
