The brightest Movies of Moscow Film Festival29-th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) is in its full swing. Today we want to tell you the most interesting, the most controversial movies from its various programs By Stas Tyrkin Documentaries"The Red Elvis" (Germany)Director - Leopold GrünIt appears to be that "socialistic countries block" had their own "Red Elvis". This is the new documentary about Dean Reed - singer and actor, who is almost forgotten in our country now. The West did not know him at all. The movie portrays Dean as a political idealist, who moved to Eastern Germany from the USA in his search of "utopic" paradise, which socialism was for him. With all that said, Dean Reed never refused his American citizenship and, so different from other people in Eastern Germany, he could freely go around the world as much as he pleased, instead of sitting, like you were chained to it, behind the Berlin Wall. Having been to 32 countries with his concerts (they were mostly socialistic and developing countries), everywhere in various interviews he would talk about how the wall in the middle of Berlin was necessary to separate socialistic virtue from capitalistic shortcomings. This enigmatic character's life unexpectedly ended in 1986: In the very beginning of peresroika this avid supporter of socialistic way of life either drowned in a lake in Eastern Berlin all by himself, or the secret service helped him with that. |
