Brief an den verstorbenen Vater

Ramona Reed

6-9-2023

Dear Papa,

This year is a special year. Wow, 85 years old, time flies. Did you watch the documentary or listen to the podcast? I hope you are proud. Your life was so amazing, there wasn't much writing involved...It basically wrote itself!

Everyone misses you and is celebrating you today.

A little update on family. I am doing well, I quit my job after 35 years to share your story with the world and to create a Dean Reed Estate for your music to live on and to continue your legacy. I am still married after 24 years but no children, Natasha doesn't have children either. Honestly this was something that I regret tremendously. I don't usually have regrets, I didn't fully understand the importance of bloodline at the time...But no worries, your nephew Jim has had 2 boys and they both have the Reed men good looks, blue eyes and that sparkling smile. I am close with Jim and his family. Every time I see the boys I see you! ... ahhhh you would have loved them.

I met with Ann, my babysitter in Rome, remember her? She had the most wonderful stories to share about those times when I was a baby, that I have never heard. I didn't realize you were so present as a young father, changing diapers, constantly taking care of me and playing with me. I love hearing about those personal moments.

Andrea, and her devoted team, set up a wonderful archival website of all pictures, articles, singles, LP's...everything Dean Reed. You would have been amazed how your memory lives on and how many hearts and lives you have inspired. Even the new generation knows a little about you AND I was surprised to find out that you are studied in some schools around the world ... Amazing achievement! Thank you to Andrea and everyone keeping your life story relevant.

I love you!

I can feel you with me, supporting me when I am weak and insecure. Your strength moves me forward, to tackle even the most challenging projects. When I am thinking I can't do something or its just too emotional, I ask myself what would Papa say or do? You are such a courageous, passionate and determined man. I hope I got some of that from you.

See you in my dreams, sitting on your wraparound porch overlooking the Colorado mountain peaks, strumming the guitar.

Love you soooooo much,
Your daughter,
Ramona
