Suit Doesn't Fit:A federal judge in Los Angeles has dismissed a wrongful death suit claiming that East German agents killed Dean Reed, an American who became one of the Communist bloc's most popular singers. Ramona Reed, 19, had said the East German government was upset because her father had said in a "60 Minutes" interview in 1986 that he was disenchanted with life in East Germany. Six weeks later Reed, 47, who was known as the "Johnny Cash of Communism," was found dead in a lake near his East Berlin home. But U.S. District Judge Irving Hill threw out Ramona Reed's suit last week, saying she failed to pursue the action in court and failed to serve the complaint on the defendant. |
