We are in Mexico, in the bloodiest days of the revolution. The confusion often reigns at times in a country torn by the struggle between those people who defend Maximilian and his special privileges, and those who play their lives for the revolutionary ideals of Juarez, and all the braves of the Mexican Revolution. The fight left roadside many human slags pursued by the law, adventurers of all kinds and American bandits who cross the border to fish in troubled waters. For them this is a good time. They are men like Sabata, as Ballentine or tough as Escudo, a brave revolutionary, fierce and naive at the same time.

These three men decided to hunt for people pursued by law, and initially it seems that they will embrace the cause of revolution. So much so, that Sabata killed in fierce fighting, bandit Murdock and all his men, so he could return to the orphanage, and to Father Mike, all the money that the burglar had stolen. Later, Sabata joins revolutionary Escudo, to carry out an important task.

"We must intercept a shipment of gold that came from Austria, directly to Maximillian's coffers".

He adds:

"And that gold should go to the revolutionaries' hands..."

Sabata accepts to organize the assault and Ballantine who feels that there is a fortune in gold that can be passed from hand to hand, joins the two of them.

"The gold will come in a wagon", reports Escudo, "escorted by a few regular soldiers. They are well armed, we must be very careful".

Sabata, Escudo, and Ballentine studied a well-planned ambush, and after a rentless struggle, they manage to defeat the defenders of gold. But after the battle, Sabata and Escudo discovered that the wagon has disappeared and along with it, the astute Ballantine...

Then, they start chasing him and when they catch him, they decide to kill him.

"Do not kill me", beg Ballantine, "I got the gold to protect it... I am not lying..."

Then, the revolutionaries arrived and decided also to kill the thief, but Sabata saved him. The gold should reach the revolutionaries, but Ballantine facing Escudo's opposition argues that the treasure should not be used to buy war weapons. Futile argument at the time of revolution; but in the meantime, they got the good news: Maximilian has surrendered.

The bandits then decided to keep the gold, only to discover with great disappointment that the bags contain only sand. Someone has cheated, but who?

Sabata learns that the Austrian command is the one who has the gold hidden in a barrel of wine, and plans to have it for their own benefit, when Maximilian surrenders.

Aliens camp is located three hours from the Mexican border and the state of Texas.

Sabata, Ballantine and Escudo, decided to carry out another operation to finally seize the coveted goal... But when they were in full operation, to achieve it, they are captured by the Austrians.

Sentenced to be shot, and when they are in front of the peloton, an incredible maneuver of Ballantine saves them to die. An explosion occurred, and the astute bandit, pretends to be mortally wounded.

Meanwhile, Sabata and Shield run towards the cart, where the barrel full of gold is, but they don't find it.

Sabata senses that is again Ballantine who took the gold and they run after him.

As soon as they see him, Sabata fires a shot against the barrel of gold. Through the hole the gold starts falling out, paving the road to the United States.

Across the border, Ballantine looks back triumphantly, but is shocked when he found out that the gold was lost in the way. An Indian who was watching the scene, said: "Gold belong to the earth, and to the earth returns..."
