POR PRIMERA VEZ UN VAQUERO EN MOSCOW

Dean Reed asediado por los "ye-yés" rusos

Regresa de Rusia. Viene feliz y satisfecho, como un niño grande con éxito nuevo. Es el cantante norteamericano Dean Reed.

"Ha sido la aventura más importante de mi vida."

Es rubio, alto y delgado. En su pecho joven albergaba un poquitin de miedo cuando se dirigia a la URSS, por aquello que era el primer cantante de música moderna de su país que iba a presentarse ante los rusos.

"He pasado dos meses actuando en Moscú y siete capitales más. En total, treinta y nueve recitales de hora y media. Estoy contento y cansado."

¿Quién lo contrató?

"La agencia oficial del gobierno ruso."

¿Cuánto le han pagado por estas actuaciones?

Mueve la cabeza y sonríe. Lo duda un momento. Sonríe otra vez. Sus ojos azules se tornan muy alegres, muy vivarachos.

"Prefiero no hablar de cifras, aunque le diré que me pagaron muy bien.

Cantó en inglés y en español. La música es un idioma internacional y no hubo problemas. Sin embargo, despertó más curiosidad por ir de España que por ser americano.

La gente me preguntaba más por cosas de España que de mi país. De España lo desconocen todo, sólo saben las versiones deformadas que escribieron en toda clase de libros los que regresaban de la guerra civil española."

¿Muchas "fans"?

"¡No me hable! Ha sido terrible! A la entrada y salida de la sala, escoltado por policías. Incluso un policía ruso me pidió un autografo. Cuando lo conté en Checolosvaquia, no me lo creían."

¿Es la juventud rusa tan "ye yé" como la de otros países?

"Es alegre, como la de todas partes, y les gusta la música. Sin embargo, lo que no se ven son melenudos. En ninguna de las capitales que he visitado encontré jóvenes de esta clase."

Durante la noche, y con un fr&iacue;o considerable, enormes colas se formaban en la calle, frente al local donde había de actuar al día siguiente Dean Reed. Cuando un guardia preguntaba la causa de que pasaran alli la noche, el público contestaba:

"Queremos reservar nuestra entrada para ver al joven cantante americano."

¿Gustan los rusos de los ritmos modernos?

"El gusto ruso es más bien romántico. Yo interpreté ritmos modernos y canciones románticas, pues tenía plena libertad de cantar lo que quisiera."

¿Algún disgusto con el público?

"Ninguno. Tenía miedo de que, por ser norteamericano, surgiera algún silbido, alguna voz de protesta; pero ni uno s&oaucte;lo. Es un público educadísimo y todo fueron vivas y aplausos."

Su éxito ha sido tal que las autoridades lo invitaron, como una excepción muy especial, a asistir en la plaza Roja al desfile conmemorativo de la revolución rusa.

"Tuve libertad absoluta para hacer todas las fotografías que quise."

¿ Volverá pronto a actuar en Rusia?

"Me invitaron para que vuelva este año, pero no sé si podré."

El presente de Dean Reed está un tanto complicadillo. Dentro de unos días sale para el Festival de San Remo, donde representará a Italia. Inmediatamente regresara a Madrid. Aquí le espera una película musical, "Codo a codo", de la que es el protagonista.

"Ya habrá tiempo de descansar. Uno es joven."

Y sonríe otra vez desde su altura, y los ojos se le incienden de luz. Es un muchacho inteligente, simpático y sencillo. Las muchas "fans" que le escriben dicen que también es muy guapo.

DEAN REED Besieged by the Russian teenagers

He came back from Russia. He looks happy and satisfied, as a big boy with a new toy. He is the Northamerican singer Dean Reed.

"It has been the most important adventure of my life."

He is blonde, tall and slim. In the deepest of his young heart, he was a little afraid when he was going to the Soviet Union, because he was the very first singer from his country, singing modern music and performing in front of the Russians.

"I spent two months performing in Moscow and in seven other cities. Total of thirty nine concerts, lasting one hour and a half each. I am happy and tired."

Who hired you?

"The Russian oficial government agency."

How much did they pay you for your performances?

He move his head and smiled. He doubted. Smiled again. His blue eyes are lively and happy.

"I would rather no to talk about figures, though I can say that I was very well paid.

I sang in English and Spanish. The music is an international language and I didn't have any problems. Nevertheless, people were more curious about Spain than my own country.

They didn't know anything about Spain, only the twisted version written in all kind of books by the ones coming back from the Spanish civil war."

Did you get many fans?

"Don't even mention it! It has been terrible! I had to get in and out from the room escorted by the police! Even one of the Russian policeman asked me for my autograph. When I talked about it in Checoslovaquia, they didn't believe me."

Is the Russian youth the same than in another countries?

"They are happy like in any other places, and they like music. Neverthless, what you don't see are long-haired guys. In all the cities I visited, I didn't see any."

Long lines of fans waiting in a very cold weather, in front of the building where Dean Reed was going to perform the next day. When a security guard asked them what was the reason to spend the night in the street, they answered:

"We want to get our tickets to see the young American singer."

Do Russian people like modern rhythms?

"Russian people likes better romantic rythms. I sang for them modern rhythms and romantic songs, I had the freedom to sing whatever I wanted."

Any problems with the audience?

"None. I was afraid for the fact to be North American, I was going to be booed, or someone was going to protest, but it didn't happen. The audience was very polite, and cheerful, and they applauded all the time."

He had such a big success, that he was invited as an special guest by the authorities, to the Red Square commemorative's Parade, in honor of the Russian Revolution.

"I had completely freedom to take all the pictures I wanted."

Are you going to perform in Russia again any time soon?

"I was invited to come back this year, but I don't know if I could."

Dean Reed's present is a little complicated. In a few more days he is going to the San Remo Festival, where he will compete for Italy. Immediately after that, he will come back to Madrid. Here, he will make a musical movie "Side by side" where he plays the main role.

"I will have time to rest later, I am young."

He smiles again, and his eyes sparkled. He is an intelligent boy, nice and simple. His many "fans" say that he is very handsome as well.

Rückkehr aus Russland. Er kehrt glücklich und zufrieden zurück, wie ein großes Kind, das einen neuen Erfolg erzielt hat. Es geht um den US-amerikanischen Sänger Dean Reed.

"Das war das wichtigste Abenteuer meines Lebens."

Er ist blond, groß und schlank. Ein bisschen Angst hatte er schon, als er in die UdSSR fuhr. Schließlich war er der erste Sänger moderner Musik seines Landes, der sich den Russen vorstellen durfte.

"Ich bin zwei Monate lang in Moskau und in sieben weiteren Großstädten aufgetreten. Insgesamt habe ich 39 eineinhalbstündige Konzerte gegeben. Ich bin zufrieden und müde."

Wer hat ihn unter Vertrag genommen?

"Die staatliche Agentur der russischen Regierung."

Wie viel hat er mit diesen Konzerten verdient?

Er bewegt den Kopf und lächelt. Dann zögert er einen Moment und lächelt wieder. Seine blauen Augen werden sehr fröhlich und lebhaft.

"Ich möchte lieber nicht über Zahlen sprechen, aber ich versichere Ihnen, dass ich sehr gut bezahlt wurde.

Ich habe auf Englisch und Spanisch gesungen. Die Musik ist eine internationale Sprache und es gab keine Probleme. Allerdings weckte mein Aufenthalt in Spanien mehr Neugier als die Tatsache, dass ich US-Amerikaner bin.

Die Leute fragten mich mehr nach Dingen aus Spanien als aus meinem Land. Sie wissen nichts über Spanien. Sie kennen nur die verdrehte Version, die in den Büchern der Männer steht, die aus dem spanischen Bürgerkrieg zurückgekehrt sind."

Gab es viele Fans?

"Jede Menge! Es war schrecklich! Am Eingang und am Ausgang wurde ich von Polizisten eskortiert. Ein russischer Polizist hat mich sogar um ein Autogramm gebeten. Als ich das in der Tschechoslowakei erzählt habe, wollte man mir nicht glauben."

Ist die russische Jugend so "ye yé" wie die in anderen Ländern?

"Sie ist fröhlich wie die Jugend überall. Und sie liebt die Musik. Aber Gammler sieht man nicht. In keiner der Großstädte, die ich besucht habe, traf ich solche Jugendlichen."

Obwohl es sehr kalt war, bildeten sich nachts lange Schlangen auf der Straße vor dem Ort, an dem am folgenden Tag Dean Reed auftreten sollte. Als ein Wachmann die Leute nach dem Grund fragte, warum sie dort die Nacht verbrachten, antwortete das Publikum:

"Wir wollen eine Eintrittskarte, um den jungen US-amerikanischen Sänger zu sehen."

Mögen die Russen moderne Rhythmen?

"Die Russen mögen Romantik. Ich habe moderne Rhythmen und romantische Lieder gesungen, denn ich durfte singen, was ich wollte."

Gab es Missstimmungen beim Publikum?

"Nein. Ich hatte befürchtet, dass man mich auspfeifen oder protestieren würde, weil ich US-Amerikaner bin, aber nichts dergleichen geschah. Das Publikum ist sehr gebildet und alle klatschten und ließen mich hochleben."

Sein Erfolg war so groß, dass die Behörden ihn ausnahmsweise einluden, der Parade zu Ehren der russischen Revolution auf dem Roten Platz beizuwohnen.

"Ich hatte absolute Freiheit, alle Fotos zu machen, die ich wollte."

Werden Sie bald wieder in Russland auftreten?

"Man hat mich eingeladen, dieses Jahr wieder dorthin zu reisen, aber ich weiß noch nicht, ob ich Zeit haben werde."

Gegenwärtig ist es ziemlich kompliziert für Dean Reed. In einigen Tagen fährt er zum Festival von San Remo, wo er Italien vertritt. Danach kehrt er sofort nach Madrid zurück, wo ihn der Musikfilm "Codo a codo" erwartet, in dem er die Hauptrolle spielt.

"Die Zeit zum Ausruhen kommt schon noch. Ich bin ja jung."

Er lächelt und seine Augen strahlen. Er ist ein intelligenter, sympathischer und bescheidener junger Mann. Und seine vielen weiblichen Fans sagen, dass er auch gut aussieht.
