DEAN REED - ARMA EL NIDO PARA QUEDARSE EN NUESTRA TIERRA

GRAN EMBAJADOR DE ARTE EN FRATERNAL MISION

Es un astro de la nueva ola, pero de la nueva ola creadora, con ideas, con impulsos de superación humana y artística. La que trajo en su bagaje de verdadero embajador del arte en cordial tercera visita a nuestro país. Con todo lo que se ha propuesto el grupo de actores que integra con Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, el director Paton Price y otras personalidades de Hollywood, todos empeñados en cumplir una misión artítico-social, colaborando con su labor en mensajes de paz, nunca mas que ahora necesarios para la armonía del mundo.

Así es que este auténtico ídolo de la buena ola que trabaja con aspiraciones que están por sobre el nivel común de los sucesos exististas. Enamorado de nuestro país, al igual que de su esposa Patricia - 25 años, de Alabama -, por ahora disfruta de una confortable residencia en Martínez, pero al igual que aquella, aspira afincarse definitivamente en nuestro país.

"Pero ello no impedirá que sigamos viajando..." nos dice el inquieto Dean. "Quiero seguir conociendo mundo, pero no como un turista más. Mis ambiciones van mucho más allá. Quiero aprender nuevos idiomas" - digamos que el muchacho se expresa en un agradable y bien adquirido castellano -, "descubrir costumbres, aspectos históricos, geográficos y filosóficos que no alcanzan a brindarme los libros. Vivimos en un tiempo en que el artista debe saber qué pasa a su alrededor en el mundo entero. Además, estoy preparando un libro sobre mis viajes y observaciones."

"SOMOS MUY FELICES AQUÍ"

Preguntamos:

¿Y de la Argentina, dirás muchas cosas?

"Muchísimas, primeramente, porque mi esposa y yo somos muy felices aquí. Y tanta es la dicha que tiene Patricia al hallarse en este país, que con ella hemos pensado en adoptar a un niño argentino..."

¿Puede pedirse más a tan simpático y noble muchacho, que en forma tan sincera abre así su corazón respecto de su estada entre nosotros?

¿Y para cuándo piensa, Dean, realizar ese viaje de que nos habla?

"Para fines del año actual, luego de cumplidos mis contratos aquí en Buenos Aires. En el Canal 9 firmé hasta Septiembre, con opción hasta Diciembre, lo que sucederá, sin duda, y luego tengo que actuar en tres filmes de Enrique Carreras, antes del último mes del año..."

¿Y adónde piensa dirigirse?

"A Europa y Asia..."

Preguntamos:

Pero siempre manteniendo su residencia aquí en Argentina, ¿verdad?

"Así es. Y con nuestra casa propia..."

¿Y cuales son las principales razones que lo impulsa a usted y su esposa a buscar residencia entre nosotros?

"La tremenda simpatía que irradia el pueblo argentino. En él encontramos verdadero cariño, calor de hogar, una corriente de correspondencia nada fácil de hallar. A modo de ejemplo, podría decir que me emocionó muchísimo observar el tratamiento cordial que se brinda a los ídolos por parte del público. Así supe de algo que en mi país no se estila. Hace poco en la avenida Corrientes y Carlos Pellegrini, se me acercó un señor ya mayor, y abrazándome en la forma más varonil, me felicitó por mi trabajo en la pantalla chica. Algo de lo que yo no había disfrutado nunca en los Estados Unidos, donde es muy difícil que se dispensen demonstraciones de afecto. Luego son muchos los choferes de taxi que no me quieren cobrar los viajes por simpatía, así como me ocurrió que en la boletería del Casino, donde exhiben un film en cinerama, no me quisieron cobrar la entrada mia y de mi esposa... Todo esto en forma espontánea. Y son cosas que a mí, realmente me conmueven..."

NO SOLO ES CANTOR

Otra pregunta:

¿Es usted sentimental?

Y nos responde:

"En la medida en que mis reacciones emocionales me lo permiten antes hechos que tienen validez humana. Luego soy también, no diré frío ni calculador, pero sí sobriamente realista. Mitad y mitad. Digamos de modo que pueda considerarme perfecto desde mi punto de vista. Por ejemplo, no creo que mi trabajo deba ser solo tocaar la guitarray cantar, lo que me agrada mucho y es posible que le guste también a mi público. Un artista debe ser algo más, un hombre interiorizado de la vida social, sea cual fuere el lugar donde se encuentre, y buscar por todos los medios el mayor acercamiento. ¿Qué cosa mejor que el arte, la música, la pintura, la buena literatura, como el buen cine y el teatro para lograrlo?"

Así habla este singular intérprete del moderno cancionero, de 26 años y con una madurez intelectual que sorprende. Sobre todo porque es sincero, espontáneamente aútentico en sus apreciaciones. Dean Reed no conoce el artificio y ama de verdad como un ser de superadas condiciones en los tiempos actuales.

Volvemos al tema del cine, y nos informa:

"Acabo de realizar 'Ritmo nuevo y vieja ola', una película en tono de comedia brillante, donde tuve tan espléndidos compañeros como: Angel Magaña, Lolita Torres y Tita Merello, al actuar en uno de los episodios de los tres de que consta la producción."

¿Piensa hacer teatro entre nosotros?

"No me queda tiempo materialmente, porque además de las películas, tengo la radio por la Splendid, los jueves como ustedes saben. A propósito de cine, en estos dias, llegará aquí la segunda de las dos producciones que filmé en Mexico: 'Guadalajara en verano' que dirijió Julio Bracho. Este film ganó dos premios en el reciente Festival de cine azteca..."

Ya habíamos llegado al final de nuestra entrevista. Apareció la simpática Patricia Reed y en criollo le dijo a su esposo: "Vamos Dean, que se hace tarde, y no me quiero perder el Pato Donald". Iban al cine. Juntos los Reed, se alejaron de nosotros, dejándonos la impresión de un hermoso matrimonio, compuesto por un hombre y artista cabal y una tierna mujer que lo comprende y lo acompaña en sus nobles empresas en el cine, la TV y en la misma vida.

He is an actor and creator of the new wave with ideas and the desire to excel in his artitistc life as well as a human being. This is what he brought inside of his luggage, in his 3rd friendly visit to our country. The group of actors in Hollywood integrated by Marlon Brando, Paul Newman the director Paton Price and other personalities are determinated to collaborate in a social-artistic mission, sending messages of peace, needed now more than ever for the world's harmony.

This way, this new wave idol is working very hard towards his ambitions. In love with our country and with his wife Patricia - 25 years old, from Alabama -, is enjoying for now a comfortable residence in Martínez street, but both of them want to settle down in our country.

"But, this doesn't mean that we won't continue traveling..." said Dean the restless. "I want to know the whole world, but not just like any other tourist. My ambitions are going beyond that point. I want to learn new languages" - let's say that the boy is expressing himself in a pleasant and well spoken Castilian -, "to discover different customs, historical, geographical and philosophical events, which you can't find in a book. We are living a time in which an artist should know what is going on around the world. Besides I am preparing a book about my trips and observations."

"WE ARE VERY HAPPY HERE"

We asked him:

And, would you say something about Argentina?

"Yes, a lot of things, first of all because my wife and me are very happy here. Patricia is so happy to be in this country, that we have even thought in adopting an Argentinian child..."

Can we ask for more to this nice, noble guy who is sincerely opening his heart saying how he feels about us?

And Dean, when do you think you are going to make that trip that you are talking about?

"Towards the end of the year, after I am done with my contracts here in Buenos Aires. In Channel 9 I have a contract until September with the possibility to be extended until December, which I think it is going to happen; and then, I have to make 3 movies directed by Enrique Carreras, before of the end of the year..."

Where are you plannig to go?

To Europe and Asia...

We asked:

But you are going to keep your residency here in Argentina, right?

"Yes, and in our own house..."

And, what are the most important reasons for you and your wife to live among us?

"The people from Argentina are extremely nice. In here we found true love, the family atmopsphere, something very difficult to find. As an example, I can say it was very touching to watch how friendly people are with the Idols. I realized that this is not something common in my country. The other day in the intersection of Corrientes and Carlos Pellegrini Avenue, came to me an older man, gave me a hug and congratulated me for my work in the small screen. This is something that I have never experienced before in United States, where is very difficult to give an artist this kind of demonstrations. Then, the taxi drivers don't want to charge me for the rides, and in the Casino's box office, where they are showing a movie in cinerama, they didn't want to charge us for our tickets. All of this done spontaneously. These facts really touch me..."

HE IS NOT JUST A SINGER

Another question:

Are you sentimental?

He answers:

"According to my own emotional reactions, with human facts that really worth. Then, I will say that I am not a cold or calculating person but realistic. Half and half, so, this way I can consider myself perfect from my point of view. For example, I don't think that my work is just to play the guitar and sing, which I like so much and I hope my audience likes it too. An artist should be more than that: A man having knowledge of social life, it doesn't matter where he is at, trying to get closer to the people through the art, music, painting, good literature, a good movie or theatre."

This is the talk of this singular interpreter of modern songs, being only 26 years old, but with a surprising intelectual maturity. Most of all, because he is sincere, spontaneous, and honest in his evaluations. Dean Reed doesn't know artificial manners and love the truth as a human being with special conditions.

We went back to the movies subject, and he informed us:

I just finished "Ritmo nuevo y vieja ola", a bright comedy where I shared honors with Angel Magaña, Lolita Torres and Tita Merello, all of them wonderful workmates. I performed in one of the three acts of the production.

Are you planning to do some theatre here?

"I don't think that I have enough time, because besides the movies I have program in Radio Splendid on Thursdays as everybody knows. By the way, speaking about movies, one of these days, we will get the second of the two productions that I made in Mexico: 'Guadalajara en verano' directed by Julio Bracho. This film won two awards in the Azteca Movie Festival..."

We were getting to the end of our interview, when his nice wife Patricia showed up and told him in criollo (Spanish): "Let's go Dean, it is getting late and I don't want to miss the Donald Duck's cartoon." They were going to the movies. Together, the Reeds walked away, giving us the impression of a happy marriage formed by an honest man and a loving woman, who understands him, and follows him through his stardom and through his life.

"Das schließt aber nicht aus, dass wir weiterhin reisen ...", sagt uns der unruhige Dean. "Ich möchte die Welt kennenlernen, aber nicht als Tourist. Meine Ziele gehen weit darüber hinaus. Ich möchte weitere Fremdsprachen lernen." Wir müssen zugeben, dass der junge Mann ein angenehmes und gutes Spanisch spricht. "Ich möchte die Bräuche entdecken, historische, geographische und philosophische Aspekte entdecken, die mir die Bücher nicht vermitteln können. Wir leben in einer Zeit, in der der Künstler wissen muss, was um ihn herum in der ganzen Welt geschieht. Außerdem bin ich dabei, ein Buch über meine Reisen und Eindrücke zu schreiben."

"WIR SIND HIER SEHR GLÜCKLICH"

Wir fragen:

Was kannst du uns über Argentinien sagen?

"Sehr viel. Meine Frau und ich sind sehr glücklich hier. Patricia fühlt sich so glücklich in diesem Land, dass wir überlegen, ob wir ein argentinisches Kind adoptieren..."

Kann man mehr Offenheit von einem so sympathischen und edlen jungen Mann verlangen, der uns sein Herz öffnet, indem er von seinem Leben bei uns spricht?

Dean, wann glauben Sie, werden Sie diese Reise machen, von der Sie sprechen?

"Ende diesen Jahres, nachdem ich meine Verträge hier in Buenos Aires erfüllt habe. Bei Canal 9 habe ich bis September mit einer Option bis Dezember unterzeichnet, die sicherlich auch in Anspruch genommen wird. Danach muss ich in drei Filmen von Enrique Carreras mitspielen, im vorletzten Monat des Jahres..."

Und wohin wollen Sie reisen?

"Nach Europa und Asien..."

Wir fragen:

Aber Ihren Wohnsitz hier in Argentinien wollen Sie behalten, nicht wahr?

"Ja, genau. Und in unserem eigenen Haus..."

Welche sind die Hauptbeweggründe dafür, dass Sie und Ihre Frau bei uns wohnen wollen?

"Die begeisternde Sympathie, die von dem argentinischen Volk ausgeht. Wir finden hier echte Zuneigung, menschliche Wärme, eine Reihe von Übereinstimmungen, die nicht einfach zu finden sind. Es hat mich zum Beispiel sehr bewegt, zu sehen, wie sehr die Stars vom Publikum verehrt werden. Das habe ich so in meinem Land nicht erlebt. Vor kurzem trat in der Straße Corrientes y Carlos Pellegrini ein älterer Mann an mich heran, umarmte mich kräftig und gratulierte mir zu meiner Arbeit im Fernsehen. Das ist mir in den USA nie passiert. Dort sind auch Sympathiebekundungen selten. Viele Taxifahrer hier wollen kein Geld von mir nehmen, um ihre Sympathie zu bekunden. Auch am Schalter des Casino, wo ein Film lief, wollte man von mir und meiner Frau keinen Eintritt nehmen. All dies sind spontane Bekundungen. Und das sind Dinge, die mich wirklich bewegen..."

ER IST NICHT NUR SÄNGER

Eine weitere Frage:

Sind Sie sentimental?

Er antwortet uns:

"In dem Maße, in dem meine Gefühlsäußerungen es mir angesichts menschlicher Werte gestatten. Andererseits bin ich - ich möchte nicht sagen kalt oder berechnend - aber in vernünftigem Maße realistisch. Halbe, halbe. Sagen wir, ich kann mich meiner Meinung nach als perfekt bezeichnen. Ich denke zum Beispiel, meine Arbeit sollte nicht nur darin bestehen, Gitarre zu spielen und zu singen. Das gefällt mir zwar sehr und ich glaube schon, dass es auch meinem Publikum gefällt. Aber ein Künstler muss mehr leisten. Er muss sich mit der gesellschaftlichen Situation auseinandersetzen, egal wo er sich befindet, und mit allen Mitteln eine möglichst große Annäherung anstreben. Welche Wege wären dazu besser geeignet als die Kunst, die Musik, die Malerei, die schöngeistige Literatur sowie gut gemachtes Kino und Theater?"

Dieser 26-jährige, einzigartige Interpret moderner Songs spricht mit einer überraschenden intellektuellen Reife. Seine Einschätzungen sind ehrlich, spontan und authentisch. Dean Reed liegt alles Künstliche fern, er liebt die Wahrheit.

Kehren wir wieder zum Thema des Kinos zurück. Er erzählt uns:

"Ich habe gerade 'Ritmo nuevo y vieja ola' abgedreht. Das ist eine brillante Filmkomödie, in der ich so hervorragende Kollegen wie Angel Magaña, Lolita Torres und Tita Merello an meiner Seite hatte. Der Film besteht aus drei verschiedenen Episoden."

Haben Sie auch vor, hier bei uns Theater zu spielen?

"Dafür bleibt mir leider keine Zeit, denn neben den Filmen mache ich jeden Donnerstag, wie Sie wissen, Radiosendungen bei Splendid. Übrigens kommt demnächst die zweite der beiden Produktionen, die ich in Mexiko gedreht habe, in die hiesigen Kinos: 'Guadalajara en verano' unter der Regie von Julio Bracho. Dieser Film hat auf dem kürzlich stattgefundenen Festival des Aztekischen Films zwei Preise gewonnen."

Wir sind am Ende unseres Interviews angekommen. Da kommt die sympathische Patricia Reed herein und sagt zu ihrem Mann auf Spanisch: "Lass uns gehen, Dean. Es ist schon spät und ich möchte 'Donald Duck' nicht verpassen." Sie wollen ins Kino. Familie Reed hinterlässt bei uns den Eindruck eines glücklichen Paares, das aus einem perfekten Mann und Künstler und einer zärtlichen Frau besteht, die ihn versteht und bei seiner Arbeit für Kino und Fernsehen sowie bei allen Aufgaben des Lebens selbst begleitet.
