Guadalajara en verano

Esta en proceso la compaginación en los Estudios Churubusco de la capital mexicana la película "Guadalajara en Verano", en la que un espléndido paisaje sirve de marco a esta producción rodada totalmente en la ciudad de Guadalajara, Jalisco (distante 600 kilómetros de la capital azteca), llamada "La Perla Tapatía".

Muchos productores del cine mexicano han comprendido, al fin, que deben salirse de los "sets" acartonados, abriendo al cine las puertas de la naturaleza. Los norteamericanos llegan a México con frecuencia a filmar, precisamente atraídos por los bellos paisajes. Y resulta un contrasentido que el cine de casa se encuentre aprisionado dentro de los estudios.

"Creo que he vivido una buena experiencia dirigiendo esta película integramente en escenarios naturales", me dijo su realizador, Julio Bracho.

Esta película muestra a un grupo de nuevas figuras debutantes: Elizabeth Cambpell, Alicia Bonet, Claudia Nicol, Patty Hobbs, Lynne Karoll, Carmen Rodríguez, Xavier Loyá, Claudio Brook, David Reynoso, Enrique Rocha, y el cantante norteamericano Dean Reed. Tres, Loyá, Reynoso y Brook, tienen experiencia en cine, los otros no. El productor José Luis Bueno me dijo al respecto:

"La inclusión de artistas extranjeros motivó la animosidad de algunos. Sin embargo, los elegimos por exigencias del libreto, ya que se trata de una historia sobre los amoríos de varios estudiantes norteamericanos que van a Guadalajara a los cursos de verano. Dean Reed, por ejemplo, actúa y canta con mucho éxito en Mexico y está iniciándose en nuestro cine. Por otra parte, ¿quién mejor que un norteamericano para interpretar el papel de un estudiante de ese país que se enamora de una chica mexicana?"

El productor siguió analizando la personalidad de las otras estrellas extranjeras que actúan en su película:

"Elizabeth Campbell es una chica norteamericana de enorme sexappeal y desbordante atractivo. Hace el papel de una 'gringuita' que desea encontrar un charro y conocer a los mariachis. Se desiluciona al descubrir que en Guadalajara muy pocos jóvenes usan el típico traje mexicano. Al fin encuentra a uno (David Reynoso), y se enamora de él."

Luego analiza a Claudia Nicol, recién llegada a México.

"Poca veces he visto a una chica tan atractiva como ella", confiesa entusiamado el productor José Luis Bueno. "Su gran fotogenia la impulsará rápidamente al estrellato. Creo que será una auténtica revelación. En cuanto a Lynne Karoll, hace el papel de una periodista divorciada (y que también concurre a los cursos de verano), y se enamora del maestro solterón, interpretado por Claudio Brook. Finalmente Patty Hobbs es la norteamericana enamorada de las tradiciones mexicanas. Después de vivir un idilio inolvidable, regresa a su país."

Queda, pues, ampliamente justificada la inclusión de gran número de nuevas figuras extranjeras en esta cinta, cuya fórmula puede dar excelentes resultados: un argumento divertido y la explosiva belleza de un ramillete de jovencitas enmarcadas en los maravillosos paisajes del Estado de Jalisco.

"No pretendemos hacer una película de aliento", comenta el director Julio Bracho, "la hemos planeado para divertir al público y al mismo tiempo para reveindicar en el extranjero al mexicanismo, tan venido a menos. Para poder hacerla", continúa, "fue necesario sortear muchos escollos. Especialmente la enemistad que al principio mostraron en contra nuestra los habitantes de Guadalajara. Y no los culpo. Pensaban que íbamos a hacer otra película de 'charros borrachos y matones', que tanto han desprestigiado al cine azteca. No fue fácil hacerles ver que nuestra película era diferente, que queríamos mostrar los sitios más bellos de su ciudad y sus costumbres.

La filmación de una película en escenarios naturales aumenta considerablemente el presupuesto. Una cinta como 'Guadalajara en Verano', filmada en los estudios, hubiese costado menos de la mitad. Se gastaron tres millones de pesos mexicanos, cifra pocas veces invertida."

En cuanto a la historia, el productor José Luis Bueno tomó la palabra:

"Nuestra película está integrada por cinco historias relacionadas entre sí", me dijo. "Desde que se planeó, comprendí que el éxito dependería en gran parte de la sensibilidad del director y de su habilidad para relacionar los idilios de las cinco parejas. Realmente no existe ninguna historia más importante que la otra. El amor es el lazo de unión."

"Dean Reed es un magnífico elemento. Canta bien y tiene una apariencia fisica que resulta interesante para las muchachas. A veces uno se pregunta por qué un joven como él no está haciendo carrera en Hollywood. La respuesta es sencilla: Dean se ha enamorado de México, y quiere triunfar aquí. En sus actuaciones entre nosotros siempre ha tenido mucho éxito y muy pronto, estoy seguro, ocupará un lugar de privilegio en nuestro cine". Palabras de Julio Bracho, director del primer film azteca de Dean Reed: "Guadalajara en verano". En esta escena, el cantante con Patty Hobbs. Dean Reed visitará Chile este mes de septiembre.

Guadalajara in Summer

In the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City are putting together the movie "Guadalajara in Summer" in which, a magnificent scenery is the frame of this production filmed in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco (about 600 kilometers away from the Aztec city), called "La Perla Tapatia".

Many producers have finally realized that they have to move away from fake "sets", and use the natural ones. American people come often to Mexico, to make movies, precisely attracted by it's beautiful sceneries. So, it doesn't make sense for us to be making movies trapped inside the studios.

"I believe that I've lived a great experience directing this movie in a natural setting," said his director Julio Bracho.

This movie shows us a group of new persons making their debut: Elizabeth Cambpell, Alicia Bonet, Claudia Nicol, Patty Hobbs, Lynne Karoll, Carmen Rodriguez, Xavier Loya, Claudio Brook, David Reynoso, Enrique Rocha and the North American singer, Dean Reed. Three of them, Loya, Reynoso and Brook are movie actors, the other ones, no. This is what the producer Jose Luis Bueno said in regard to this subject:

"The inclusion of foreign artists is reason of animosity for some people. Nevertheless, we chose them, because the script required it, since the history is about the love affairs of several North American students going to Guadalajara to summer classes. Dean Reed for example, sings and acts succesfully. He is starting to be an actor in our movies. On the other hand, who would be better than a North American to play the role of a student from that country to fall in love with a Mexican girl?"

The producer continues analizing the personality of the other stars acting in his movie:

"Elizabeth Campbell is a North American girl very sexy and extremely attractive. She plays the role of a 'gringuita' who wants to find a Mexican cowboy, and to meet the mariachis. She gets very dissapointed when she finds out that very few guys wear the typical Mexican suit. Finally she meets one (David Reynoso) and falls in love with him."

Next, he analyses Claudia Nicol who just arrived to Mexico.

"Few times I have seen such an attractive girl," confesses the producer Jose Luis Bueno. "She is very photogenic, she will be a movie star in a short period of time. I think that she will be a true revelation. About Lynne Karroll, she plays the role of a divorced journalist (who assists to the summer classes as well) and falls in love with the old bachelor played by Claudio Brook. Finally, Patty Hobbs who is the North American in love with the mexican traditions. After living an unforgettable affair, she returns to her country."

This way, is fully justified the incursion of this big number of new foreign artists in this movie, whose formula could lead us to excellent results. A funny script, and the explosive bevy of beauties framed by the wonderful sceneries of the Jalisco State.

"We don't pretend to make just a simple movie," comments the director Julio Bracho, "we want to entertain the public, and at the same time to restore the Mexican reputation, going downhill abroad. To be able to make it continues, we had to work around all the difficulties they came up against, specially the animosity that people from Guadalajara showed against us at the beginning, and I don't blame them. They thought that we were going to make another movie about 'drunk and bully Mexican Cowboys', whom have descredited the Aztec cinema. It was not easy to let them know that this movie was different, that we wanted to show our customs and the most beautiful places of the city.

The shooting of a movie in natural sceneries, increases considerably the budget. A movie as 'Guadalajara en Verano' made in a indoor set would have cost less than a half. We spent three million Mexican pesos, not a very common figure to spend in making a movie."

About the script, the producer Jose Luis Bueno took the floor.

"Our movie has 5 stories linked together. Since I started planning the movie, I understood that the success of the movie was going to depend of the sensibilty of the director, and his ability to relate the affairs of these 5 couples. There is no story more important than the other. Love is the bond."

"Dean Reed is a wonderful man to work with. Sings well, and has an stunnig figure, what makes him very interesting for the girls. Sometimes I ask to myself why a young man like him is not carving out a career in Hollywood. The answer is simple: Dean has fallen in love with Mexico and wants to be famous here. In his performances among us, he has always been very successful, and probably very soon he will have an oustanding place in our movie-making." These words are from Julio Bracho, director of Dean Reed's first Aztec film: "Guadalajara en Verano". In this picture, the singer with Patty Hobbs. Dean Reed will come to Chile this month of September.

Guadalajara im Sommer

In den Studios Churubusco der mexikanischen Hauptstadt enden gerade die Arbeiten an dem Film "Guadalajara in Summer" (Guadalajara im Sommer), in dem eine bezaubernde Landschaft den Rahmen für eine Handlung bildet, die sich ganz um die Stadt Guadalajara im Bundesstaat Jalisco dreht (600 Kilometer von der Hauptstadt entfernt), genannt die "Perle Guadalajaras".

Viele mexikanische Filmproduzenten haben inzwischen begriffen, dass sie sich von den gemalten Kulissen verabschieden und die Natur im Kino zeigen müssen. US-Amerikaner kommen oft nach Mexiko, um Filme zu drehen, weil sie von der schönen Landschaft hier fasziniert sind. Die einheimischen Filmproduzenten hingegen sperren sich in ihre Studios ein.

"Ich glaube, es war eine gute Erfahrung für mich, dass ich diesen Film ausschließlich an natürlichen Schauplätzen gedreht habe", sagte mir sein Regisseur Julio Bracho.

Dieser Film zeigt eine Reihe von jungen Schauspielern, die ihr Debüt bei uns geben: Elizabeth Cambpell, Alicia Bonet, Claudia Nicol, Patty Hobbs, Lynne Karoll, Carmen Rodríguez, Xavier Loyá, Claudio Brook, David Reynoso, Enrique Rocha und der US-amerikanische Sänger Dean Reed. Drei von ihnen, Loyá, Reynoso und Brook, haben bereits Filmerfahrungen vorzuweisen, die anderen nicht. Dazu erklärte mir der Produzent José Luis Bueno:

"Die Verpflichtung von ausländischen Schauspielern hat einigen nicht gepasst. Aber wir haben uns wegen des Drehbuchs dafür entschieden, denn es geht um die Liebesgeschichten einiger US-amerikanischer Studenten, die zum Sommerkurs nach Guadalajara kommen. Dean Reed zum Beispiel spielt und singt erfolgreich in Mexiko und gibt nun auch sein Debüt als Schauspieler bei uns. Außerdem: Wer könnte die Rolle eines US-amerikanischen Studenten, der sich in ein mexikanisches Mädchen verliebt, besser spielen als ein echter US-Amerikaner?"

Der Produzent sagt über die anderen ausländischen Schauspieler in seinem Film:

"Elizabeth Campbell ist eine sehr attraktive US-Amerikanerin mit großem Sexappeal. Sie spielt die Rolle eines Mädchens, das einen mexikanischen Cowboy oder Mariachi kennenlernen möchte. Sie ist enttäuscht, als sie feststellt, dass in Guadalajara nur sehr wenige junge Leute die typische mexikanische Tracht tragen. Schließlich findet sie doch einen (David Reynoso) und verliebt sich in ihn."

Dann spricht er über Claudia Nicol, die gerade erst nach Mexiko gekommen ist.

"Ich habe selten ein so attraktives Mädchen wie sie gesehen", gesteht der Produzent José Luis Bueno voller Enthusiasmus. "Sie ist sehr fotogen und wird deshalb schnell ein Star werden. Ich glaube, sie ist eine echte Entdeckung. Lynne Karoll spielt die Rolle einer geschiedenen Journalistin (die auch zu dem Sommerkurs gekommen ist), die sich in den allein stehenden Lehrer verliebt, der von Claudio Brook gespielt wird. Patty Hobbs spielt die US-Amerikanerin, die in die mexikanischen Traditionen verliebt ist. Nachdem sie eine unvergessliche Idylle erlebt hat, kehrt sie in ihr Land zurück."

Die Verpflichtung vieler neuer ausländischer Schauspieler für diesen Film ist also mehr als gerechtfertig und der Film hat alle Zutaten, die man für einen Erfolg braucht: ein unterhaltsames Drehbuch und die explosive Schönheit einer ganzen Reihe von jungen Mädchen, die von den wunderschönen Landschaften des Bundesstaates Jalisco eingerahmt werden.

"Wir wollen keinen ruhigen Film drehen", erzählt der Regisseur Julio Bracho, "wir wollen das Publikum unterhalten und gleichzeitig die mexikanischen Traditionen heute zeigen. Um das tun zu können", setzt er fort, "mussten wir viele Hindernisse aus dem Weg räumen. Besonders die Feindschaft, die die Einwohner von Guadalajara anfangs gegenüber unserem Film zeigten. Und ich gebe ihnen keine Schuld. Sie dachten, wir würden einen anderen Film drehen, einen über betrunkene Cowboys und Raufbolde, wie sie in vielen Filmen vorkamen, die den mexikanischen Film so sehr in Verruf gebracht haben. Es war nicht einfach, ihnen zu zeigen, dass unser Film anders werden würde, dass wir die schönsten Plätze ihrer Stadt und ihre Bräuche zeigen wollen.

Wenn man einen Film in natürlichen Kulissen drehen will, steigen die Ausgaben enorm. Wenn man 'Guadalajara en Verano' im Studio gedreht hätte, wäre der Film nicht einmal halb so teuer geworden. So wurden für diesen Film drei Millionen mexikanische Peso ausgegeben. So viel, wie nur für wenige Filme zuvor."

Über die Geschichte erzählte der Produzent José Luis Bueno:

"Unser Film besteht aus fünf Geschichten, die miteinander zusammenhängen", sagte er mir. "Schon bei der Planung wurde mir klar, dass der Erfolg zum großen Teil von der Sensibilität des Regisseurs abhängen würde sowie von seiner Fähigkeit, die Geschichten der fünf Paare miteinander zu verbinden. Denn tatsächlich ist keine der Geschichten wichtiger als die andere. Die Liebe ist das verbindende Element."

"Dean Reed ist eine wunderbare Persönlichkeit. Er singt gut und die Mädchen finden ihn hübsch. Manchmal fragt man sich, warum ein junger Mann wie er nicht in Hollywood Karriere macht. Die Antwort ist einfach: Dean hat sich in unser Mexiko verliebt und will sich hier durchsetzen. Seine Auftritte bei uns waren immer sehr schnell von Erfolg gekrönt. Ich bin sicher, er wird ein Star unseres Kinos werden", erklärt uns Julio Bracho, der Regisseur des ersten mexikanischen Films mit Dean Reed "Guadalajara en verano". In dieser Szene sieht man den Sänger mit Patty Hobbs. Dean Reed wird noch in diesem Monat (September) nach Chile reisen.
